Top Hollywood showrunner Mara Brock Akil’s first child was not a planned pregnancy, but when she realized it was a “hiatus baby” (meaning she’d be in between projects and have time off work anyway), she was relieved. She literally turned in her last cut and went into labor. Turns out, she was actually the most productive she’d ever been in her career during that time. She was running Girlfriends and wrote two pilots, one of which was The Game wrapped around her baby’s sleep and feeding schedule. She was motivated more. And she tells us why pregnant women are the best employees in our exclusive interview.
